Canadian Thrash/Death name Soulscar and We current talking about they new material Victim Impact Statement
LN :
First of all Please tell me about your history?
SS :
Soulscar came to be in 1997, with Andrew putting out demos in 98 and 99. They were
well received, with some encouraging reviews. I joined the band in 2001, we did a
small promo ep with Jeff Waters, and finally released Character Assassination in
2002. 2003 brought us the additions of Igor Cheifot on drums and Stas Mikheev on
guitar, and we began doing live shows locally. We recently opened for bigger acts
such as Devin Townsend, Dimmu Borger, and the Darkest Hour, and released our
second full length album - Victim Impact Statement on Galy Records.
LN :
What does the name Soulscar mean and Why did you choose it?
SS :
The name "Soulscar" is a combination of the words "Soul" and "Scar". Basically, a
mark or scar upon one's Soul. Soulscar.
LN :
What is your description of Soulscar sound?
SS :
The Soulscar sound is a blend of death and thrash metal, and is both technical and
melodic.
Lots of riffs that cause massive headbanging, as well as some catchy moments that
accent the dynamics of the songs.
LN :
Are any of the members of Soulscar involved in other bands at the moment?
SS :
We occasionally jam with other musicians for fun, but Soulscar always comes first. I
have another group where we do jazz standards for parties and gatherings.
LN :
Are the people in your personal life (parents, girlfrient, etc.) supportive of your
Death Metal carrer?
SS :
All of our friends and family support what we do 100%, and come out to every show.
We're fortunate enough to have such dedicated people around us.
LN :
What are your all-time top5 Death Metal album?
SS :
In no particular order (and they may not all be classified as death metal):
At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul
Strapping Young Lad - City
Carcass - Heartwork
Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing (not death metal, but amazing album)
Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve
LN :
What was the first Death Metal album your owned?
SS :
It was probably either Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve, or At The Gates -
Slaughter Of The Soul
LN :
What ideas and thoughts have been taken to write the lyrics?
SS :
Lyrics on "Victim Impact Statement" were written by three people, so there were a lot
of different elements put into the writing. For myself, lyrics come from whatever
influences me or needs to be expressed. I wrote "Without a Shadow" based on an
idea for a short story I had a while ago.
LN :
What are Soulscar plan for the future? Any up coming shows?
SS :
We are going to do more shows in the new year(2005), and try to push "Victim Impact
Statement" to as many people as possible. Hopefully get out of Vancouver and do
some touring. Play for some new faces, and make some new fans. I'm looking
forward to playing with some new bands too!
LN :Tell me about your current material.
SS :
Victim Impact Statement contains a lot of different elements. It's very thrashy with
lots of melodic moments. Stas and Igor bring in new elements to the band that, for
me, make the album much better! Our new material consists of longer tunes, and
we're looking at song structures in a new way. Stepping away from the typical "verse,
chorus, verse" way of writing.
LN :Please explain how Thailand metal mania can buy your Merchandise?
SS :
All of our merchandise (cds, t-shirts, etc) are available on our website at
www.soulscar.com !
LN :
Any last words........

road and show you what we're all about. Cheers!
